A widget is an element of a graphical user interface that displays information or provides a specific way for a user to interact with the operating system or an application .
Widgets include icons, Pull-down menus,buttons,selection boxes progress indicators ,on off checkmarks , scroll bars , Windows edges that let resize the window ,toggle buttons ,from and may other devices for displaying information and for inviting accepting,and responding to rser actions.
In programming , widget also means the small program that is written in order to describe what a particular widget looks like , how it behaves and how it tailor widget that a programmer can incorporate in an application ,specifying hoe it is to behave . New Widget can be created.
In computing,the term was apparently applied first in UNIx Based system and the X Window System.
The term Widget has traditionally been used to refer to any discrete abject usually of some mechanical nature and relatively small size when it doesn't have a mane when you cant remember the mane or when you in general . According to Eric Raymond, Compiler of The Hacker's Dictionary legend has it that the original Widget s wer whoders for bhhy Whips but this was possibly written tongue in cheek.
